The White Shoe

Visual storytelling informed by real time trends and consumer data.

Project Overview:

    For this project, we were tasked with observing and analyzing street fashion to identify a trend and support it with additional research to tell a cohesive story. We then had to uncover the target audience for this trend and create an editorial spread inspired by an existing magazine that this target consumer would likely read.


Process:

    We began by hitting the streets of New York City to see what was actually trending in real time. We focused on observing college aged students that were wearing accessories. 200 people were photographed and out of those, 54 people were wearing white sneakers. We uncovered this data by utilizing Adobe Bridge to tag our photos with keywords.


    We further categorized the white sneaker photos to uncover more details about who was participating in this trend and what brands were most prominent.


    After we had gathered our data and research we then began to consider style. Our photos were captured nearby college campuses including NYU and Parsons. The majority of our subjects could be categorized as young adults that demonstrated a sense of style. Therefore, we looked to V Magazine for inspiration on creating an aesthetic that captivates a young, professional and fashion forward audience.


    Finally we began wire framing and revising in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop in order to create our final editorial spread.

Outcome:

    This project taught me how to conduct primary and secondary research and weave them together to tell a convincing and applicable story. In addition, by utilizing graphic design skills and attention to detail I was able to condense my research findings and storytelling into a captivating and aesthetically pleasing visual narrative. Giving me skills I can carry into different positions including consumer research, marketing and branding, and business strategy.
